COVID-19: Taylor County adds 1 death, 33 new cases Tuesday

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District reported Tuesday one COVID-19-linked death, 33 new cases and seven recoveries.

The total number of county deaths connected to the coronavirus is 549.

Of the 33 new cases, 13 were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction tests.

Active cases total 731 (212 PCR cases and 519 confirmed by antigen tests). A week ago, active cases numbered 602.

Hendrick Health reported Monday 46 COVID-19 inpatients, with 15 in ICU. On the last report Friday, there were 57 COVID-19 inpatients, including 16 in ICU.

The breakdown Monday by facilities was 42 inpatients at the Abilene hospitals (12 in ICU), and four at the Brownwood hospital (three in ICU).

Of the 46 Hendrick COVID-19 inpatients, 36 were not fully vaccinated.

The percentage of COVID-19 inpatients in the 16-county Abilene trauma service area was 5.82% of total capacity Monday, compared to 6.50% Sunday and 6.59% Saturday, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services COVID-19 database.

The Abilene trauma service area Tuesday had 54 COVID-19 inpatients, five fewer than reported Monday. The state also reported Monday that three admissions were made in the previous 24 hours.

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES

Abilene ISD: Reported Tuesday three new student cases. New cases by campus: one each at ATEMS, Craig Middle and Crockett Early Learning Center.

Active cases total 29 (19 students, 10 staff members), four fewer than reported Monday. Since Aug. 3, the district has reported 1,309 cases (1,062 students, 247 staff members).

Wylie ISD: Reported Tuesday zero new cases, with nine active cases, one fewer than reported Monday.

Active cases by campus (eight students, one staff member): one student at East Junior High, one student at West Intermediate, three students and one staff member at West Junior High and three students at West Elementary.

Abilene Christian University: Reported Tuesday zero new cases, with seven active cases, the same number Monday. Of the active cases, 85.7% are unvaccinated. Due to possible exposure, four people are in quarantine. Cumulative cases since Aug. 17 total 196.
