COVID-19 cases grow by 68 in St. Louis County on Friday

Apr. 16—Another 114 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in Northeastern Minnesota as of Friday.

As usual, most of those cases, 68, are in St. Louis County, which is the region's largest county.

Minnesota health officials reported no new deaths in the seven-county region. They did report six deaths from COVID-19 elsewhere in the state.

New cases and seven-day averages in Northeastern Minnesota counties:

— Aitkin — 5; 3.7.

— Carlton — 12; 10.1.

— Cook — 0; 0.

— Itasca — 23; 18.3.

— Koochiching — 4; 4.1.

— Lake — 2; 0.7.

— St. Louis — 68; 54.9.

Minnesota reported that, as of Thursday, 43 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 in Northeastern Minnesota and 11 of those people were in an intensive care unit.

Another 1,700 people in Northeastern Minnesota have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. Of those age 16 and older in the region, 55% of people have had at least one dose.

— Carlton — 48%.

— Cook — 65%.

— Itasca — 39%.

— Koochiching — 38%.

— Lake — 48%.

— St. Louis — 47%.
