New COVID-19 cases flat in Jackson County

Aug. 19—The number of new COVID-19 cases remained flat over the past week in Jackson County, while cases trended down slightly in Josephine County and statewide.

Oregon Health Authority reported 302 new COVID-19 cases in Jackson County for the past week, for a daily average of 43.1 cases — numbers unchanged from the previous week.

OHA reported one Jackson County resident died from COVID-19-related causes during the past week. One resident died the previous week, as well.

OHA reported 106 new cases over the past week in Josephine County, down from 137 the previous week. OHA said no Josephine County residents died during the past week, compared with one the week prior.

Statewide, Oregon logged 5,792 new cases for the past week, a drop from 6,164 new cases the previous week. OHA said eight Oregonians died from COVID-19-related causes during the past week, compared with 16 the week before.

The community risk for COVID-19 in both Jackson and Josephine counties fell from the medium category to the low category as of Friday, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Under low-risk conditions, the CDC advises everyone to stay up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations and to get tested if they have symptoms. If you are at high risk of getting very sick from COVID-19, talk with a health care provider about additional prevention actions.

The CDC measures community risk based on criteria like new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations.

As of Wednesday, hospitals in Jackson and Josephine counties were caring for 64 patients with the virus. Statewide, 328 hospitalized patients had the virus, according to the latest OHA data.
