COVID-19 cases, deaths in NEPA continue downward trend

Jun. 12—A seven-county region of Northeast Pennsylvania marked fewer COVID-19 cases and deaths Saturday compared to the prior day, according to the state Department of Health's daily update.

The counties of Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming recorded 33 new cases, as compared to 41 Friday.

The regional total of cases has now increased to 78,051.

There were no new deaths in the seven-county region Saturday, compared to one new death the prior day. The region's total deaths held at 1,873.

Meanwhile, there were 412 new cases statewide recorded Saturday, as compared to 380 the prior day.

The state's total cases now stand at 1,208,287.

There were 17 new deaths statewide Saturday, as compared to 19 new deaths Friday. So far, 27,474 Pennsylvania residents have died.

The figures generally reflect a continued easing of the virus in recent months.

In the local counties:

Lackawanna added seven cases for 18,498 total, of which 2,898 were probable cases. Deaths remained at 479.

Luzerne added 19 cases for 31,996 total, including 2,605 probable. Deaths held at 821.

Monroe added four cases for 14,771 total, including 465 probable. Deaths stayed at 321.

Pike added one case for 4,016 total, including 434 probable, and remained at 54 deaths.

Susquehanna had no new cases and remained at 2,652 total cases, of which 350 were probable. Deaths held at 62.

Wayne added one case for 4,127 total, including 437 probable, and remained at 82 deaths.

Wyoming added one case for 1,991 total, including 355 probable, and remained at 54 deaths.
