The county fair is back

Jul. 28—PARK TWP. — The Ottawa County Fair opened Monday and runs through Saturday. Gates open daily at 11 a.m.

The county fairgrounds in Park Township has free parking. Admission is $4 for adults, $1 for ages 3-10, and free for kids younger than 3.

Throughout each day, food is available to purchase and carnival rides are open. Other activities include face painting, drawings and trivia.

"We just want to serve the neighbors in Ottawa County and just bring families together," said fair treasurer Laura Cramer. "We've just been so trapped inside with COVID and no fair last year, so we are really excited people are coming out this year."

Each night will close with a Grandstand show, which includes the Michigan Monster Truck Shootout, Unique Motor Sports Twisted Trailers, SJO MotoCross, Super Kicker Rodeo and the OCF Mud Runs.

A complete schedule can be found online at ottawacountyfair.com.

The 4-H (Head, Heart, Hands, Health) program will host daily events as members show different animals in front of judges. They will be showing cows, chickens, rabbits, cats, dogs, goats and donkeys.

"4-H is about teaching agricultural ways in a leadership development program," said Marsha Aerts, whose children are involved in the organization. "They try to teach the kids USDA standards. Those things that you might not think of how you get your dinner on your plate is everything 4-H is teaching the kids."

Along with being a major supporter of 4-H, the Ottawa County Fair is mostly nonprofit, according to Cramer.
