Country music star moms get their turn in the spotlight in a new podcast

The mothers of country music stars Luke Bryan, Thomas Rhett, Parker McCollum and more will get their turn in the spotlight in a new podcast launching this week called "Got It From My Momma."

Veteran broadcaster Jennifer Vickery Smith got the idea for the podcast after her 22-year-old son, Conner Smith, landed a record deal. Smith said she realized she really couldn't lean on her girlfriends to talk about being the mom of a country artist.

"I didn’t have anyone to talk to about what’s going on," Smith told The Tennessean. "You’re in a boat that feels alone when you’re parenting through this."

Smith, 50, used her contacts developed through nearly two decades of covering country music for outlets like "Entertainment Tonight," "Extra" and WSMV-Channel 4 to find guests.

Smith said she's found a powerful connection with celebs' moms. And the difficulties are often just typical mom stuff.

In one episode, Thomas Rhett's mom talks about the challenge of having Rhett's wife replace her as the person her son tells everything first.

"There have been tears in almost every episode," Smith said, "and there's been a ton of laughter."

New episodes will be released every Tuesday.
