Council approves contract for new manager
May 18—HIGH POINT — Incoming High Point City Manager Tasha Logan Ford will be among the highest paid municipal officials in the Triad when she begins work this summer.
The City Council on Monday approved a contract with Logan Ford that will pay her an annual salary of $212,450.
The council on May 3 selected Logan Ford, an assistant city manager for Winston-Salem, following a national search to replace Greg Demko, who resigned as High Point's top administrator in May 2020.
Her pay will be competitive with her counterparts at High Point's two larger Triad neighbors.
The salary of her current boss in Winston-Salem, City Manager Lee Garrity, is $212,486, and Greensboro City Manager David Parrish's salary is $221,433.
High Point will be Logan Ford's first tenure as a permanent city manager, although she did once serve as an interim manager for Goldsboro. She also served as an assistant manager there and for Rocky Mount.
Her contract spells out that she will serve at the pleasure of the council without a probationary period and that the city would owe her six to nine months' severance pay if the council fires her or if she resigns for "good reason," such as the council failing to increase her salary by the same percentage as other city employees.
The city will provide Logan Ford a vehicle and cellphone allowance and will pay her moving expenses up to $10,000.
Logan Ford is slated to begin the job July 19 and must establish and maintain a primary residence within High Point's corporate city limits within nine months of employment, under the contract.
