Cops: Man lit firecrackers under sleeping 9-year-old as a prank

A Florida man was apprehended over the weekend after he allegedly broke into a home and lit firecrackers under a sleeping 9-year-old girl, according to the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office.

Matthew Morrison, 44, of Crestview, was arrested on Saturday after he walked into the residence and lit a string of firecrackers under the child's bed in "a prank gone wrong," police said in a Facebook post. The owner of the home told authorities that Morrison lived in a tent outside of the house and had walked into the home without his permission.

Following the disturbing incident, the homeowner said he then chased Morrison out of the house with a stick. When police eventually responded to the scene, the child purportedly told them that the sound of fireworks exploding underneath her bed had caused her "to be frightened, cry and shake."

Law enforcement detained Morrison, who was found with approximately two grams of methamphetamine in his pocket. He was booked on charges of burglary, child cruelty without great harm and possession of a controlled substance.
