Convolo owners opening new small-event space in December in Sioux Falls

The owners of Convolo, a small-scale event space in downtown Sioux Falls, have decided to open a second location.

The new sister space is called Casetta, which means "little house" in Italian. It is located at 201 W. 37th Street on Phillips Avenue, where interior design firm Houndstooth House is currently located.

Houndstooth House is moving into a bigger space right next door at the start of October.

Amy Boes, who runs Convolo with her sister Angela Merritt, said it was also time for them to expand, this coming less than a year after they first opened.

“It’s been exciting to see the response from the community with Convolo. We really hit the ground running when we opened and have been consistently booked,” Boes said. “Finally, we said, ‘OK, we either need more Saturdays in the year or we need another space.’”

The space will seat up to 50 guests for small-scale celebrations such as holiday parties, showers and rehearsal dinners. There is also a separate conference room available for corporate events.

Boes said the central location and a large, private parking lot made the space ideal. It’s also near Hy-Vee and ABC rentals, so it will be convenient for hosts who need to quickly pick up beverages or event decor, she said.

She also said the atmosphere of Casetta will be more contemporary than its sister, Convolo.

“I’d describe Casetta as more neutral and modern. Because Houndstooth is an interior design firm, they have great features here already that we’ll be playing off of while still adding our own touch,” Boes said.

The gable-style house will be repainted black, and the inside features a Cambria backsplash, white shiplap ceilings and open shelving that the sisters really love. They plan to finish other cosmetic changes over the next couple months.

Boes said they are currently taking Casetta bookings for events in December and beyond.
