Work continues on Carbon County annex building

May 15—Carbon County commissioners last week purchased additional furniture for its renovated annex building, as work continues on the 44/76 Susquehanna St. building project.

The commissioners accepted a $164,562 proposal from Corporate Environments of Bethlehem for furnishings for the first floor of the 76 Susquehanna St. building, which should be ready for move-in July 5.

The proposal, which includes furnishings from 9to5 Seating, Hawthorne, California; Corbett Inc., Norristown; Corporate Environments, Bethlehem; and Sit On It, Cypress, California, fall under state COSTARS contracts.

Work on the 44 Susquehanna St. building is also continuing, and should be ready for move-in by mid-September.

The commissioners also moved ahead with another proposal — this one for the county prison. They accepted a $222,464 proposal from Communication System Integrators of Allentown to replace the current door control system.

The commissioners discussed moving away from a rocker controlled system to a computerized door system, which cues up cameras when a door switch is triggered to allow an employee to see who is there, during budget talks last year.

The purchase is also covered under a state COSTARS contract.
