Stockton residents can expect delays and detours through the summer around Lincoln High School, as construction at Alexandria Place and Five Mile Slough is set to begin at the end of May.

During construction, Alexandria Place will be closed at Five Mile Slough, where the city will be replacing the existing corrugated metal culvert — a structure to channel water past an obstacle, such as a road — with a new concrete box culvert and installing erosion control infrastructure at the Five Mile Slough stormwater pump station.

Southbound traffic on Alexandria Place will detour at Meadow Avenue. Northbound traffic will detour by turning right onto Lincoln Road.

Pershing Avenue is currently closed between Thornton Road and Lincoln Road for a San Joaquin County construction project. The Meadow and Pershing intersection will be open by May 31 to allow southbound traffic.

Traffic is expected to be impacted for other nearby locations, including Sierra Middle School, Swenson Golf Course and Swenson Park. The city expects construction at Alexandria Place and Five Mile Slough to be completed before October.

Sinclair Engineering was awarded the $708,215 construction contract by the Stockton City Council on April 19.

Five Mile Slough has long been discussed amongst Stocktonians. The rural slough once flowed like a living stream until urban sprawl reached its banks in the 1950s and sediment began building up.
