Conrad Weiser's Jayden Lewis and Alex Waltz advance to District 3 tennis doubles semifinals

May 14—The Conrad Weiser doubles team of Jayden Lewis and Alex Waltz won two matches Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Class 2A District 3 Boys Tennis Doubles Tournament.

Three other Berks County Class 2A teams were eliminated during the first two rounds at the Hershey Racquet Club. All three Berks Class 3A teams were eliminated in the first two rounds at the RCW Athletic Club in Lancaster.

Lewis and Waltz, the Berks champions and District 3 No. 3 seeds, opened with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Fred Bloom and Aryan Kaladindi of Lancaster Country Day.

In the quarterfinals, Lewis and Waltz were extended to three sets before prevailing with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 win over Lancaster Catholic's Miles Durrett and Ross Conway.

In the semifinals Saturday at 1 p.m., Lewis and Waltz will face second-seeded Adam Warren and Tommy Hallahan of Trinity, who dropped just two games in their two matches.

Lewis and Waltz need to win one match Saturday to qualify for the PIAA Boys Tennis Championships. The championship and third-place matches will follow the semifinals.

The No. 1-seeded team of Brendan McNamara and George Brubaker of Lancaster Catholic took out two of the Berks teams in Class 2A.

In the first round, McNamara and Brubaker defeated Conrad Weiser's Fox Bryan and Mark Yazemboski 6-1, 7-5.

In the quarterfinals, the Lancaster Catholic duo scored a 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 win over Berks Catholic's Sam Robertson and Michael Schuetz. Robertson and Schuetz won their opening match 6-1, 7-5 over Andy Snyder and Colin Brusse of Susquehannock.

The fourth-seeded doubles team of Jay Schreck and Luke Berger of Berks Catholic won in the first round 6-1, 6-2 over Clayton Herb and Adam Dopkowski of Camp Hill.

In the quarterfinals, Schreck and Berger, the Berks runners-up, were upset 7-5, 6-1 by the Donegal's Luke Yunginger and Evan Stehman.

In Class 3A, the Wilson's Veraj Patel and Ben Winkler-Quigley were the only Berks team to advance out of the first round.

Patel and Winkler-Quigley defeated Charlie Robbins and Rocco Shkreli of Cedar Crest 6-4, 6-3 before losing 7-5, 6-3 to the third-seeded Cumberland Valley team of William Ong and Vivek Srinivas.

Reading High's Zach Schrader and Gerardo Sanchez lost 6-1, 6-4 in the first round to Hershey's Andrew Schreck and Jesse Mullins.

Exeter's Teddy Snyder and Alex Chen lost 6-3, 6-2 to fourth-seeded Jonathan Arbittier and Daniel Wu of Dallastown.
