Conrad Weiser's Jayden Lewis and Alex Waltz earn District 3 doubles silver medal

May 15—Jayden Lewis and Alex Waltz are heading to the state tournament.

The Conrad Weiser doubles team won a long three-set match Saturday in the semifinals of the Class 2A District 3 Boys Tennis Doubles Tournament at Hershey Racquet Club.

Lewis and Waltz lost in the championship match to earn silver medals. They will play in the PIAA Doubles Tournament beginning on Friday, May 28, at Hershey Racquet Club against the District 4 champions.

Waltz and Lewis, the No. 3 seeds, defeated the second-seeded team of Adam Warren and Tommy Hallahan of Trinity to reach the championship match.

After dropping the first set of the semifinal match 7-5, Lewis and Waltz won a tiebreaker to win the second set 7-6 (7-5) and even the match. Lewis and Waltz won the third set 6-1 to secure their spot in the final and in the state tournament.

In the championship match, the top-seeded team of Brendan McNamara and George Brubaker from Lancaster Catholic defeated Lewis and Waltz 6-3, 6-1.

Warren and Hallahan rebounded to win the third-place match in three sets to earn the district's final PIAA berth in Class 2A.

Freshmen Aidan Mahaffey and Tyler Mahaffey of Palmyra won the Class 3A doubles championship.

Lewis and Waltz will be back on the court with their Conrad Weiser teammates Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Hershey Racquet Club when the District 3 runner-up Scouts (20-2) take on District 6 champion Juniata in the first round of the PIAA Class 2A Boys Tennis Team Championships.
