May 9—Conrad Weiser is one win from a second straight trip to the Class 2A PIAA Boys Tennis Team Championships.
And the Scouts will have two chances to achieve that goal.
Conrad Weiser (19-1) will face East Pennsboro (12-1) at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Hershey Racquet Club in the District 3 Class 2A semifinals.
The third-seeded Scouts rolled to a 5-0 win over Susquehannock while No. 7 seed East Pennsboro knocked off No. 2 Wyomissing 3-2.
The winner will advance to the championship match Wednesday at Hershey Racquet Club, time to be determined, to face the winner of the other semifinal between No. 1 seed Lancaster Catholic (15-0) and No. 5 Donegal (11-3).
The losers will meet in the third-place match Wednesday at RCW, Lancaster, to determine the third and final District 3 entry into the state tournament.
Conrad Weiser, which won its first Berks County title this season, placed third in District 3 in 2019 and was the PIAA Class 2A runner-up.
Conrad Weiser is led by No. 1 player Fox Bryan, followed by Jayden Lewis at No. 2 singles and Alex Waltz at No. 3 singles. All three won their matches Wednesday against Susquehannock.
In addition, Lewis and Waltz teamed to win the BCIAA Flight 1 doubles championship on Thursday.
Bryan was eliminated from the District 3 Singles Tournament on Friday when he retired due to an injury in a match against Berks Catholic's Michael Schuetz. Conrad Weiser coach Ryan Knarr said Bryan will be good to return for Monday's match.
East Pennsboro is led by No. 1 singles player Matea Jovic, who was an alternate for the District 3 Singles Tournament.
Wyomissing won at No. 1 and No. 2 singles against East Pennsboro, but the Panthers won at No. 3 singles and swept the two doubles matches.
