Community partnerships inspire students during Aiken STEAM Week

Aug. 9—True To Your SOLE, the Sky Is The Limit Foundation and Second Baptist Church in collaboration with Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) hosted Aiken STEAM Week Aug. 1-5.

The week culminated with Aiken STEAM Day at Second Baptist on Saturday, Aug. 6. About 27 exhibitors attended the event and impacted right under 1,000 people.

"This week was very special for me," said Marcus Schoultz with NIWC Atlantic. "Having the opportunity to come back to my hometown and impact and inspire the community on the opportunities in STEAM was so impactful for me. Our goal is to always impact, inspire and lead our current and future generations."

In addition to Aiken STEAM Day, a STEM camp was held at Second Baptist Church.

The hosted a different industry partner each day, allowing the students to interact and learn about the opportunities around the world and in the CSRA. Campers also learned how to develop a website.

Industry partners included the South Carolina Department of Education, Citizens for Nuclear Technology Awareness (CNTA), Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, Savannah River Ecology Laboratory (SREL) and Boeing.
