Can The Commercial Appeal count on you?

Each morning you receive The 901, where we share with you the most important and entertaining Memphis stories.

We are proud of our work that keeps Memphis informed. It’s hard and costly work. But it’s vital.

Some of the most distinctive work you will find in The 901 comes from The CA’s Astrid Kayembe, who came from the national Report for America program and covers South Memphis and Whitehaven. Those areas have been underserved for years by The Commercial Appeal but we have made a commitment to better cover news and issues in South Memphis, Whitehaven and Frayser to reverse the longstanding coverage disparity.

The Commercial Appeal looks to Astrid, who joined us six months ago, and other reporters to provide even deeper and richer content from these communities next year. This is work you will see each morning in The 901 and on CommercialAppeal.com.

The CA won a national grant from Report for America to pay for half of a typical reporter's annual costs. They are asking Memphis citizens to match that grant. Help us raise $30,000 to pay for our vital coverage of Whitehaven and South Memphis and delivering it to you daily in The 901.

Thanks to our partnership with Report for America, we’re able to accept fully tax deductible donations to support Astrid’s position for the next two years.

We are asking for your help to continue and expand this important work. We’re launching a crowdfunding campaign to support Astrid’s work, which is a vital resource for our community.

Can we count on your support to keep this reporting in our community going?https://bit.ly/3G6lDXO
