Dec. 2—Lauren Camp became New Mexico's second-ever poet laureate on Sept. 1, taking on responsibilities such as speaking at schools and libraries and documenting her travels around the state. As part of her outreach, the rural Northern New Mexico resident will read poetry at Teatro Paraguas, accompanied by Madison, Wisconsin, poet K. Iver.

Camp's term as poet laureate runs through 2025. She has written five books, with two more coming in 2023: Worn Smooth Between Devourings and An Eye in Each Square. Her other honors include a Dorset Prize and finalist citations for the Arab American Book Award and Adrienne Rich Award for Poetry. If Camp's name or voice sounds familiar, it might be because she was a producer and host for 15 years at KSFR, Santa Fe Public Radio. Iver is a nonbinary trans poet who was the 2021-22 Ronald Wallace Poetry Fellow for the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing and the recipient of the 2022 Helene Wurlitzer Foundation Residency Grant.
