Columbia Public Schools to have delayed start Monday

Columbia Public School students celebrating the Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl berth can sleep in a bit on Monday.

CPS will have a delayed start this Monday, the district announced late Sunday night, as the school day will begin two hours later than scheduled.

"Columbia Public Schools will have a 2-hour delayed start on Monday, January 30, 2023, due to weather," CPS spokesperson Michelle Baumstark said in an email. "This means buses will pick up 2 hours later than your student’s originally scheduled pick-up time."

The email cites evening rainfall mixed with freezing temperatures has made some roads, bridges, and surfaces slick.

"Road crews and our own facilities crews will be out treating surfaces," Baumstark wrote. "Daylight will help with visibility of road conditions."
