Coldwater tennis falls to Gull Lake to cap regular season

COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal tennis team finished off their 2022 regular season schedule Thursday night as they hosted Gull Lake at the Heritage Park Courts in Coldwater.Coldwater battled hard but fell to a very good Gull Lake squad by the score of 8-0.

Competing in the singles flights for Coldwater were Dawson Brown at number one singles who fell in straight sets; Eric Rucker at number two singles who fell in straight sets; Garrett Morrell at number three singles who fell in straight sets; and Sam Larr who fell in straight sets at number four singles.

In the doubles portion of the event all four Coldwater teams dropped their contests in straight sets after a few back-and-forth battles. Playing hard for the Cardinals was the number one doubles team of Manny Ortiz and Jon Niedzwiecki; the number two doubles team of Claudel Wischmeyer and Evan Poradzisz; the number three doubles team of Parkyr Jones and Chris Clark; and the number four doubles team of Carson Snyder and Cayden Wood.

Coldwater honored their four seniors on the night as they competed in their final home contest of their high school career. Honored were seniors Manny Ortiz, Jon Niedzwiecki, Parkyr Jones, and Chris Clark, along with one exchange student who is also playing his final home tennis match as a Cardinal in Leonard Ortmann.

Coldwater closes out their 2022 regular season with a record of 7-8 overall. The Cardinals will see a quick turn around as they will quickly be back in action as they compete in the Interstate 8 Conference Tournament on Friday.
