COLDWATER, MI. — The Coldwater Cardinal tennis team played host to the fifth ranked team in Division Three on Wednesday as they welcomed the Parma Western Panthers to town for Interstate 8 conference action. Coldwater played tough but just could not keep up with the Panthers, falling by the score of 7-1.Coldwater’s lone win came at number two singles where the Cardinals’ Grady Brockway defeated Parma’s Derek Olivas in straight sets, winning by scores of 6-4 and 6-3.In the singles flights it was Coldwater’s Eric Rucker falling to Parma’s Seth Keana at number one singles by scores of 6-1 and 6-1; at number three singles it was Coldwater’s Sam Larr falling to Parma’s Noah McCollum by scores of 6-0 and 6-1; and at number four singles it was Coldwater’s Garrett Morrell falling to Parma’s Caleb Bahlau by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.Parma Western swept the doubles flights on their way to the conference win, taking each match up in straight sets.Playing hard for Coldwater was the number one doubles team of Manny Ortiz and Jon Niedzwiecki who fell to Parma’s Micah Hall and Jesse Pratt by scores of 6-0 and 6-0; the number two doubles team of Evan Poradzisz and Claudel Wischmeyer who fell to Parma’s Jaxon Porter and Nick Hendrickson by scores of 6-0 and 6-3; the number three doubles team of Parkyr Jones and Christon Clark who fell to Parma’s team of Hudson Valentine and Dylan Yetzke by scores of 6-1 and 6-0; and the number four doubles team of Carson Snyder and Cayden Wood who fell to Parma’s team of Connor Ganzel and Joshua Veneziano by scores of 6-0 and 6-0.With the victory Parma Western has officially clinched the Interstate 8 conference regular season championship. With the loss Coldwater falls to 7-7 overall on the year and finish off Interstate 8 conference play with a record of 3-4.Coldwater will return to action Thursday when they close out the regular season with a home match up versus Gull Lake.
