August 24, 2021 /3BL Media/ - Ahead of Global Citizen Live on September 25-- the groundbreaking 24-hour global broadcast to defend the planet and defeat poverty-- Coldplay and the advocacy organisation Global Citizen are calling on international governments to take revolutionary action in climate change reversal by committing to planting one billion trees globally by 2022.

In a series of tweets ahead of COP26, Coldplay echoes Global Citizen’s calls on the Biden Administration, COP26 President Alok Sherma and the UK Government, together with key Brazilian Governors to commit to immediate action in curbing the effects of climate change.

The band calls on all to use the Global Citizen stage to announce commitments to invest in ecological conservation and climate adaptation. The famed group has long been an ambassador for Global Citizen and continually uses their platform to highlight and support campaign issues.

Coldplay is headlining the live New York festival component of Global Citizen Live, where they will join Global Citizen’s call on world leaders, major corporations, and foundations to prioritize:

  • Donating at least 1 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses to those most in need by September. While about 50% of the US and EU are fully vaccinated and oversupplied with doses, less than 2% of Africa is protected just as the continent is experiencing a devastating third wave with deaths reaching record peaks.

  • Reverting the Hunger Crisis affecting 41 million people on the brink of famine by urgently contributing enough meals to feed everyone for the next year.

  • Combating catastrophic climate change by securing commitments from the world’s largest companies to develop verified science-based targets to reach net zero emissions, and pledge to conserve, restore and grow at least 1 billion additional trees by 2022 towards the trillion trees movement.

Additional artists performing at the 24-hour broadcast with performances spanning six continents, include Billie Eilish, Camila Cabello, Jennifer Lopez, Lizzo, Meek Mill, Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran, Doja Cat, DJ Snake, H.E.R., Black Eyed Peas, Christine and the Queens, Angélique Kidjo, Alessia Cara, Burna Boy, Cyndi Lauper, Jon Batiste, Lang Lang, Femi Kuti, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Made Kuti, and more to be announced.
