Cody Cotton fans 10 as Miller/Wessington eliminates Plankinton Gold Sox from District 3B tournament

Jul. 27—CHAMBERLAIN — Miller/Wessington's Cody Cotton had 10 strikeouts to eliminate the Plankinton Gold Sox 5-3 in District 3B tournament Monday.

The Outlaws took the lead in the top of the sixth, scoring three runs on five consecutive hits to start the frame and was capped by the eventual game-deciding RBI single by Josh Koeck.

Cotton pitched all nine innings, striking out 10 batters, but allowed 12 hits and three runs.

Rafael Clemente went 3 of 4 while Jay Winter, Kyle Johnson and Koeck chipped in with two hits each. James White went 2 of 5 with two RBIs.

For Plankinton, Tye Harris and Ryland DeVries both went 3 of 5. Tom Harris had two hits of his own.

Devin Mehlhaff pitched six innings for the Gold Sox. He struck out eight, but surrendered 10 hits and five runs. DeVries allowed two hits in three innings. DeVries also struck out five.

Miller/Wessington (6-14) plays Colome at 8 p.m. Wednesday in Chamberlain.
