Cobb records four deaths, 10 hospitalizations over weekend

Jan. 17—Cobb County recorded four deaths, 10 hospitalizations and about 1,800 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend.

New cases in Cobb remain high but have declined, averaging about 1,100 per day as of Monday, per state data. Cases reached a peak of about 1,600 per day during the first week of this month. Cases before the current surge were at about 100 cases per day.

Deaths, a lagging indicator, have increased to an average of 2.7 per day as of Monday, more than double the death rate at the start of the year.
