The sports and entertainment arena being constructed in the Coachella Valley will have a name next week.

Oak View Group, the company that is building the $250-300 million arena for concerts, professional hockey and other sports, plans to announce naming rights to the building on Jan. 26 at an unveiling inside the clubhouse at Classic Club golf course. The event will not be open to the public.

The arena, which has been under construction since last spring, is expected to be completed sometime during the fourth quarter of this year. The Coachella Valley Firebirds, the American Hockey League affiliate of the NHL’s Seattle Kraken, is scheduled to begin playing in the arena in December.

The arena will sit on 43.35 acres of unincorporated land adjacent from Classic Club and Xavier College Preparatory, north of Interstate-10 near the Cook Street exit. Construction is visible from I-10.

OVG, the Los Angeles-based sports and entertainment advisory, investment and development firm, is privately funding the arena and leasing the land from the H.N. and Frances C. Berger Foundation.

Music mogul Irving Azoff is a partner at OVG and said that he expects the arena to attract many of the biggest acts in the music industry. At least 40 concerts a year are anticipated, which the expectation that around 100 annual music, sporting and family events and shows will keep the arena active year-round.

OVG announced the name, colors and logos for the Firebirds in November and opened a retail store on El Paseo in Palm Desert shortly after. By the end of the year, several shirts and hats in the store were sold out and backordered.

The naming rights to the arena will be the next milestone in what should be an eventful year for the arena and sports and entertainment in the valley.
