Clemson football ranked No. 4 in AP preseason Top 25 poll

Clemson is ranked No. 4 in the Associated Press preseason Top 25 poll released on Monday.

The Tigers, who return the bulk of their talent from last season’s 10-3 team, trailed only Alabama, Ohio State and Georgia in the ranking. Clemson's ranking comes on the heels of a No. 4 preseason ranking in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA Coaches Poll released last week.

It marked the seventh consecutive year that Clemson has been ranked among the Top 5 in the AP’s preseason poll. The Tigers have been ranked in the AP’s preseason Top 25 each of the past 11 years.

Alabama received 54 first-place votes while Ohio State had six first-place votes and Georgia three.

Clemson was one of five ACC teams to crack the Top 25, followed by No. 13 N.C. State, No. 16 Miami, defending ACC champion Pitt at No. 17 and No. 22 Wake Forest.

After a 4-3 start last season, Clemson won its final six games to post its school-record 11th consecutive season with 10 or more victories.

After finishing second in the ACC’s Atlantic Division in 2021, Clemson was picked in the ACC preseason media poll last month to reclaim the ACC title that it won every year from 2015 to 2020.
