Clemson baseball blasts Boston College, one game from clinching ACC Tournament berth

CLEMSON — With two games left, Clemson baseball can make it more.

The Tigers hit three home runs Thursday night and routed Boston College, 15-1, at Doug Kingsmore Stadium to begin a three-game series that will end the regular season. They all but clinched the 12th and final spot in the upcoming ACC Tournament, needing one more win or a loss by 13th-place Duke.

Clemson (33-21, 11-16) kept a half-game lead last weekend by winning one of three at No. 9 Virginia. Duke (11-18 ACC) lost Thursday to Virginia Tech, 15-11, and is now 1 1/2 games behind.

Max Wagner hit his ACC-leading 25th home run for a 5-1 advantage in the fifth inning. Caden Grice and Bryar Hawkins each hit their 12th. Clemson scored three in the seventh and piled on five in the eighth.

Grice, batting ninth in the order, went 3-for-4 and drove in two. Cooper Ingle also had three hits. The Tigers outhit Boston College, 16-6.

Mack Anglin pitched seven innings, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven.

Tigers catcher Jonathan French limped to first base on a groundout in his first at-bat and was replaced by Reed Garris.

Clemson hosts Boston College (19-32, 5-23) at 3 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. The ACC Tournament will be played May 24-29 at Truist Field in Charlotte.
