Class B Roundup: Ellendale goes to 10-0, Griggs-Midkota wins

Jan. 25—The Griggs-Midkota Titans girls basketball team bounced back from a 19-9 first quarter deficit Saturday, Jan. 22, to defeat the Maple River Raiders 51-50.

The Titans (4-7) put the game away in the fourth quarter by outscoring the Raiders (3-10) 17-9. The Titans turned a 41-34 deficit going into the fourth quarter into a win.

The Raiders' Chloe Wetch scored 24 of the team's 50 points. The Titans' Lauryn Halvorson finished with 13 points and Jenna Larson added 12.

The Titans are back in action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, when they go to Ellendale. The Raiders return to the court at 7 p.m. Tuesday when they take on Northern Cass.

Ellendale stays undefeated with win over Carrington

The Ellendale boys basketball team repeated their triumph from the Stutsman County Tournament over Carrington Saturday, Jan. 22, with a 59-47 win.

Ellendale (10-0) has now won seven in a row against Carrington dating back to Feb. 28, 2020.

The Ellendale Cardinals and the Carrington Cardinals (4-6) battled in the first half with Ellendale going up 22-13 into the break.

After the half, Ellendale outscored Carrington 17-12 in the third quarter. Carrington attempted to battle back in the fourth, outscoring Ellendale 22-20 but it was not enough.

Both teams shot well from the free-throw line, as Ellendale shot 7-for-9 and Carrington shot 6-for-9.

Ellendale relied heavily on Scott Wagner, who scored 25 of his team's 59 points. On the other side, Carrington was led by Lucas Hendrickson's 12 points and Grady Shipman's 11.

Ellendale returns to action at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday when they face Griggs-Midkota. Carrington attempts to get back in the win column at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, when they face Barnes County North.
