City and county removing dock at Broomfield's Siena Reservoir

Jun. 23—The city and county of Broomfield is removing the dock at Siena Reservoir this week.

The removal process began Monday and was expected to last the week. It requires trail closures in the area around the dock, the update notes, A map of the closures can be found at bit.ly/3qhE9pD.

The dock has been repeatedly vandalized and "used in ways that create safety concerns for residents," an update from the city and county states.

Director of Parks, Recreation and Senior Services Clay Shuck said in an email the dock's location does not allow for easy access or supervision.

"The dock has been vandalized several times over the past few years to the point that a decision was made during the summer of 2020 to close the structure permanently for the safety of all users," Shuck added.

There is an existing Capital Improvement Project to remove and replace the dock, but "in reviewing the replacement of the dock there were several factors that staff felt prohibited us from moving forward with the replacement portion of the project," Shuck wrote. "A couple key issues was the future use of Siena Reservoir and the potential for fluctuating water levels, as well as where to place the dock to make it more visible."

Residents can still fish the reservoir from the shore lines around the lake. Swimming is not allowed in the reservoir.
