The Award for Excellence in Investor Relations is given by CIRI to honour individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the investor relations profession and to the Institute.

Mrs. Hansell is a highly regarded lawyer and governance expert who has made a tremendous contribution to CIRI and the issuer community. Over her many years as a CIRI member, she has been instrumental in the creation of CIRI’s Standards & Guidance for Disclosure and subsequent iterations, as an instructor for the CIRI/Rotman Investor Relations Certification Program, as a Director of CIRI and by providing insights on various regulatory proposals and their impact on issuers.

Mrs. Hansell is the Senior Partner of Hansell LLP and a member of the Hansell McLaughlin Advisory Group. Over her more than 30 years in practice, she has led major transactions for public and private corporations and governments. She now leads an independent firm dedicated to advising Boards, management teams, institutional shareholders and regulators in connection with legal and governance challenges. She is regularly engaged on special committee mandates, Board investigations, governance design and reviews and shareholder engagement matters. Mrs. Hansell is also a principal with Hansell McLaughlin Advisory Inc., which, together with Hansell LLP, delivers integrated legal, governance, government relations and communications advice.

"I am particularly pleased that CIRI has chosen to recognize Carol as this year’s recipient of the Award for Excellence in Investor Relations. Her continued dedication, support and commitment to CIRI and the investor relations profession in Canada makes her ideal for this honour," said Jerry Ormiston, Chair of the Selection Committee and the recipient of the 2021 Award for Excellence.

"I want to thank CIRI and its members for this recognition," said Carol Hansell, recipient of the 2022 Award for Excellence. "I have always been proud to be associated with CIRI. It provides important leadership to its members, lifts the stature and contributions of the IR professional and contributes to the effectiveness of the capital markets. Receiving this award means a great deal to me."

"I have known and had the pleasure to work with Carol over my years with CIRI. She truly understands the value investor relations professionals can bring to the table as strategic advisors to the C-suite and Boards and supports the profession by sharing this view with the various stakeholders she engages with," said Yvette Lokker, President and CEO, CIRI.
