Cincinnati high school football scores in Week 8

Greater Miami Conference

  • Lakota West 38, Fairfield 31 - FINAL (2OT)

  • Colerain 14, Lakota East 3 - FINAL

A pair of first-half touchdowns was all Colerain would need as the Cardinals turned in their best defensive effort of the season and have now won three of four. Colerain held Lakota East to just 118 total yards and 4-of-14 on third down while forcing three turnovers. Offensively, Colerain got all it needed in the first half, mostly from quarterback Zae Jennings, who ran for a game-high 152 yards, his third-straight 100-yard effort. Jennings ran for the game’s first points and later found junior Jordan Robison for a touchdown that would cap the game’s scoring.

  • Mason 38, Sycamore 13 - FINAL

The senior accounted for all five of Mason’s touchdowns, running for 138 yards and four scores and hauling in a 41-yard touchdown reception from quarterback Larson Brown. Sycamore kept it a one-possession game until in early in the fourth quarter thanks to a pair of Tucker Groppe field goals and a 70-yard touchdown pass from Adrian Larkins to Gio Garrett. Mason, however, would score the game’s final 17 points to pull away and improve to 6-2 on the year while Sycamore is still searching for its first victory.

Trailing by 11 in the third quarter, Lebanon got back in the game on Braden Kay’s 40-yard touchdown run. • Elder 24, Indianapolis Roncalli 23 - FINAL

After taking a quick 17-0 lead to begin the game, the Elder Panthers allowed a safety which eventually tumbled into a 23-17 lead for the Indianapolis Roncalli Royals. Elder had gone six drives without a score until taking over at midfield with 8:38 left in the fourth quarter. Elder went 50 yards in two plays as quarterback Ben Schoster went to Luke Autenrieb for 49 yards while Luke Flowers gained the final touchdown on a one-yard rush. Now trailing by a point, Roncalli managed to get to the Panther 35-yard line with less than five minutes remaining. After an incomplete pass on third-and-five, Brad Hornschmeyer’s first sack of the season turned the ball over and the Elder offense drained the clock. In a turn from last week’s loss to Moeller, Elder scored 14 points off of Roncalli fumbles, helping to deliver the Royals their first loss of the season.

  • Fenwick 10, Alter 0 - FINAL

It was a historic night for Fenwick as it clinched its first winning season since 2018. The Falcons also became just the second team (Badin in 2021) to shutout Kettering Alter since 2015, which was the last time the Fenwick blanked the Knights. Fenwick got all the scoring it would need in the first quarter on Jordan Vann's six-yard touchdown run. The Falcons would add a field goal in the third quarter by Derek Morris to ultimately put the game away. Fenwick's defense continues to stymie opposing offenses and is now giving up just 9.8 points per game this season. Zach Potter had a blocked field goal Friday night while Kale Shaffer, Augie Quirch and Shaefer Janeck each had interceptions.

Zach Yordy may have had just six carries Friday, but he turned in the biggest run of the night when he plunged in for a 1-yard touchdown with 1:46 remaining in regulation to help the state’s top Division III team stay undefeated. Yordy had 19 yards, but the Rams ground game was anchored by Carter Russo, who ran for 117 yards and two touchdowns on 22 totes. Badin quarterback Alex Ritzie threw his first interception of the season but finished with 128 yards through the air and a 27-yard touchdown to UC commit Braedyn Moore to give Badin a 21-14 lead in the third quarter. Chaminade Julienne’s offense was led by Josiah Payne and quarterback Jonathan Peltier, a tandem that combined for 181 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 31 attempts. Coming into the game, Badin had not allowed more than 17 points in a game this season. Chaminade Julienne is the first team to eclipse 20 points against the Rams since Week 2 of the 2019 season (Talawanda). Badin remains atop the GCL-Coed and will look to finish a perfect regular season with Greater Cincinnati matchups against Fenwick and McNicholas in the next two weeks.
