Christmas events galore: Holiday Market, concert and parade planned

Lexington Farmers Market's 2021 season will end Saturday, Dec. 4, with the annual Holiday Market.

Local farmers will have produce, plants, eggs, and locally raised beef, pork, lamb, and chicken. Homemade jams, bread, and other baked goods will also be available for you to share at upcoming Christmas parties or to add to your own menu. The market will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 2 p.m.

You’ll also be able to do buy unique, handmade Christmas gifts from local craftsmen and artisans. Some of the possible purchases include quilts, crocheted items, aprons, pottery, leather belts and purses, jewelry, soaps and skin conditioners, air and linen sprays, charcuterie and cutting boards, wooden spoons, room décor, and more.

The Lexington Farmers Market is located at 129 S. Railroad St.

Santa Claus will drop by the Holiday Market from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to sit in his rocker by the Christmas tree. He will be available for lap-sitting, photos and Christmas wish sharing. Santa will mask if asked.

Welcome back: Lexington Choral Society will once again stage its free holiday concert

Also on Saturday, Dec. 4, Lexington Choral Society will perform a free holiday concert as its gift to the community. This year's concert will take place at 5 p.m. at First United Methodist Church. The venue is a change from the usual First Baptist Church.

On Monday, the holiday spirit continues with the annual Uptown Lexington Christmas Parade.

The parade, which begins at 6 p.m., starts on North Main Street at Hemstead Street and travels down Main Street ending at West Ninth Avenue. The 2020 Christmas parade was canceled because of the pandemic.

Santa will end the parade but a former Miss America will begin the parade. Uptown Lexington Inc. Executive Director Jacob Gordon secured Nia Franklin, the 2019 Miss America and a former Davidson County resident, as the grand marshal.
