Christina Hendricks is splitting from her husband Geoffrey Arend after 10 years of marriage.

The Mad Men star, 44, posted a message on Instagram saying the pair were now on “separate paths”.

The actress said she and Arend would continue to “work together to raise our two beautiful dogs”.

She wrote: "Twelve years ago we fell in love and became partners.

“We joined our two amazing families, had countless laughs, made wonderful friends and were blessed with incredible opportunities.

"Today we take our next step together, but on separate paths.

“We will always be grateful for the love we've shared and will always work together to raise our two beautiful dogs.”

Hendricks – who is best known for playing office manager Joan Holloway on Mad Men – went on: “We will be taking time to rediscover ourselves in this transition and we thank you for your patience and support in giving us the space to do so."

The actress and Madam Secretary star Arend got together 12 years ago after being introduced by Hendricks’s Mad Men castmate Vincent Kartheiser. They tied the knot in 2009.

She told Health magazine in 2014: “We've decided that we are not really interested in having children.”

Hendricks said there was usually an expectation that people would start a family at some point but that she did not think it was for her.

She said at the time: “It's just very normal for people to say, ‘Well, when you guys have kids...’

“And then when I say, ‘Actually I don't think we're going to do that,’ people will say, ‘Oh, you say that now...’

“It doesn't bother me, though.”
