Chicago Bears hire Ivy Leaguer to offensive staff

The Chicago Bears have announced the hiring of Luke Steckel as their new assistant offensive line coach. Steckel brings with him 14 years of NFL coaching experience, having worked with the Cleveland Browns and Tennessee Titans.

Most recently, Steckel served as tight ends coach for the Titans but has worked in multiple different positions with the team.

During his stint with the Titans, Steckel was instrumental in aiding second-round pick A.J. Brown on his path to 1,051 receiving yards and eight touchdown receptions - both numbers led all rookies in 2019.

Steckel also worked with Ryan Tannehill. Tannehill was named NFL Comeback Player of the Year in 2019, setting single-season franchise records and leading the league with a 117.5 passer rating and an average 9.6 yards per attempt.

This experience will surely be beneficial for both his work with the Bears' offensive line as well as any potential development of Justin Fields.

Steckel played college football at Princeton University. He is also the son of Les Steckel, a longtime NFL head coach who had a stint with the Minnesota Vikings back in 1984.
