Chelsea Clinton confirms she won’t run for Congress in 2020: ‘It’s a question that shouldn’t just be asked of someone whose last name is Clinton or Huntsman’

It’s official, Chelsea Clinton won’t be running for Congress in 2020. The 39-year-old daughter of Hillary and Bill Clinton confirmed the news while guest hosting The View on Tuesday.

“I am not considering running for Congresswoman [Nita] Lowey’s seat,” Clinton said to a disappointed audience and panel.

Congresswoman Nita Lowey announced recently that she would be retiring and not running for re-election in 2020. The U.S. Representative in New York has held office since 1989. There had been some speculation that Clinton was eyeing the vacant seat.

“I understand why people are asking,” Clinton conceded. “Someone has asked me some version of this question for literally as long as I could remember.

“One of my earliest memories is being 3 or 4 and someone saying, ‘So are you going to run for Governor of Arkansas one day?’ I share that because I think it’s a question that shouldn’t just be asked of someone who’s last name is Clinton or Huntsman.”

A few viewers on Twitter wondered if Clinton purposefully omitted Meghan McCain’s name when listing children of famous politicians.

Many commenters on Twitter were upset that Clinton would not be running in 2020.

Others were happy another Clinton would not be entering the political arena.

Clinton didn’t completely shut the door on running for office one day.

“Do you think you ever will?” Abby Huntsman asked.

“I don’t know, but right now the answer is no,” Clinton replied.

“There’s some disappointed people in the audience, but it’s okay,” McCain added.
