A favorite pastime for many families is to pile into the car and see Christmas light displays.

Fortunately, in Stark County, there are plenty to see.

The Farnham's Fabulous Lights at 3596 Farnham St. NW in Plain Township returns for a second season with a theme that celebrates the National Football League.

The display is a family affair for Lake High School teacher Frank Pilato. He and his wife Christine, along with their three children, spent an entire month putting up the 7,000-plus light display. The show is set to music and all 32 NFL teams are presented.

The display also includes large nutcrackers depicting Cleveland Browns players Baker Mayfield and Nick Chubb. The show begins Saturday and runs through Dec. 31.

"I figured with the (Pro Football) Hall of Fame being this close why not try to do something with a NFL theme," Pilato said.

The Farnham display also will host a special night for children on Dec. 17 with Santa Claus.

In Alliance, Dale Mills is a newcomer to the holiday displays.

Mills launched the Matthew 5:16 Lights at 3001 Edgewood Avenue this season. It has nearly 6,000 lights that are set to traditional and Christian holiday music at 89.1 FM.

"The Shonk Family Lights is in this area, you know, and I went to see his display and I thought, 'That's something I'd like to try,'" Mills said.

Mills said it took a year to plan out his display, learning all the nuances involved in the process.

"It was a little more challenging than what I thought it would be," he admitted.

But it was worth it.

"One of the first nights, there was a car sitting and watching my lights and I could hear the little kids just giggling and laughing. That made it all worth it," Mills said.
