Cheboygan County Veterans Services hosts coffee hour event to benefit local veterans

CHEBOYGAN — Cheboygan-area veterans received a step up last month when several organizations teamed up to supply them with free shoes and socks.

At a special coffee hour event on Sept. 28, the Cheboygan County Veterans Services, in conjunction with the Cheboygan American Legion Post 95 and VFW post 3623, were able to bring in Footprints of Michigan’s Souls4Vets program. They provided free shoes and socks to all of the veterans that attended.

The monthly coffee hour — typically from 9-10 a.m. on the fourth Wednesday of each month — was extended to 1 p.m. in order to provide several extra services to the veterans. In addition to Footprints of Michigan, Straits Area Chiropractic was there to provide free chair massages, Modern Pharmacy was on hand to provide flu shots to any veteran that wanted one, and McLaren Hospice was there to talk about their services.

Other local businesses sponsored the event by providing food throughout the day, including Family Fare of Cheboygan, Cheboygan Coffee Roasters and Williams Office Equipment.
