The Chase isn't one of the easier quiz shows out there, and the Chasers aren't exactly known for their generosity or friendliness in the heat of the moment during a game – but hey, that's what makes good telly.

The Chase's Jenny Ryan – who fans will know as The Vixen – has had to point out as much, after a viewer called her a "condescending cow" in a since-deleted tweet.

Jenny sarcastically thanked them for their message, writing on Twitter: "Always good to have a heads-up when someone's asking the company I work for to fire me", before then going on to insist that, actually, she's just doing her job.

"If you think I'm condescending on the show, then you don't know the half of it," Jenny wrote, before adding in a separate post that she believes her fellow Chasers can be just as "snarky to the contestants" as she is.

"I'm mostly put out by the claim that NONE of the other Chasers are ever a bit snarky to the contestants. I think my colleagues would be offended, too," she said.

Reminding fans that the Chasers are always playing up their role, Jenny added: "I'm literally doing my job, in exactly the same way as my Chaser colleagues do and always have done.

"This seems to be a perception issue, a separate issue with me. By all means give examples of me 'belittling people with knowledge', and how they are different to my colleagues!"

The Chase airs weekdays on ITV.
