Charges issued in fatal wreck

Jun. 16—HIGH POINT — A 21-year-old High Point man has been charged in a wreck earlier this month on Russell Avenue that killed a young woman who was a passenger in the vehicle.

Ronnie Lee Ellerbe Jr. was charged Tuesday with misdemeanor death by vehicle, driving while license revoked, failure to wear a seat belt and failure to maintain a lane of travel, the High Point Police Department said. Ellerbe was released with bond was set at $5,000 unsecured.

Jasmine Monique Dunbar, 25, died from injuries sustained in the wreck about 11:30 p.m. June 7 in east High Point. Ellerbe was the driver.

Dunbar was the front-seat passenger in a 2008 Hyundai Elantra that ran off the left side of Russell Avenue near the intersection with Hines Street, struck an embankment and a tree and overturned onto its roof, according to police. Dunbar, who investigators said also appeared not to be wearing a seat belt, was thrown from the car during the wreck.

Ellerbe and a 14-year-old-boy from High Point in the back seat of the car were injured.

The teenager's injuries weren't believed to be life-threatening, according to police. The teenager's name wasn't released because of his age.
