Channel 4 explains why 'The Inbetweeners' has disappeared from YouTube

Channel 4 has explained why The Inbetweeners has left YouTube after fans feared it was the latest show to be axed over its content.

Clips from the hit E4 series, known for its crude jokes, have disappeared from the show’s official YouTube page on the video-sharing platform.

After Bo’ Selecta! and Little Britain were pulled from some on demand services over offensive content, fans were worried that The Inbetweeners, created by Damon Beesley and Iain Morris, had met a similar fate.

However, Channel 4 has now explained that it is to do with rights.

A spokesperson told Yahoo: “The rights owner of The Inbetweeners (outside the UK) has changed from DRG to Banijay Group, so the standalone YouTube channel showing The Inbetweeners content has been taken down for the time being.

“The Inbetweeners full episodes are still available on All 4.”

Viewers panicked after the show’s channel on YouTube vanished, posting messages on social media asking where it had gone.

Many assumed it was the latest show to be removed over content.

“How is The Inbetweeners that ‘offensive’ they need to axe it??? The world has genuinely gone mad,” one person posted on Twitter.

Another said: “I understand why they removed Little Britain, that show used to make me feel awkward as a kid but The Inbetweeners humour was tasteful.”

“Stop censoring our comedy and culture,” fumed another.

The Inbetweeners starred Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley and Blake Harrison as teenagers at school.

It aired from 2008 to 2010 and triggered two spin-off films.

Earlier this week Little Britain was removed from BBC iPlayer as well as other streaming sites BritBox and Netflix.

The controversial BBC comedy, which aired from 2003 to 2005 and starred David Walliams and Matt Lucas, had been criticised over the years for its use of blackface and stereotyping.

And Bo' Selecta! was removed from All 4 after its star Leigh Francis apologised for playing black characters.
