Chamber seeks nominations for Banks Citizen of the Year

Feb. 3—The Decatur-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for local residents who reflect dedication, service and faithfulness for the annual Miss Athelyne C. Banks Citizen of the Year award.

The chamber will present award at its annual meeting on March 29.

Born in 1904, Banks devoted 42 years of her life to education, serving 29 of them with Decatur City Schools. She was a public school teacher, the first woman principal at Carver Elementary School and a public school administrator before dying at 98 years of age.

Last year's recipient was Sonny Craig. Other recent recipients include Dr. James E. Boyle, Decatur Morgan Hospital employees, Jim Odom, Murphy Brown, June Odom, Blake McAnally, Fred Underwood, Bill and Betty Sims, and Phil Hastings.

Nomination deadline is 5 p.m. Feb. 27. A nomination form is available on the chamber website, www.dcc.org. The form must be complete and including a minimum of 500 words explaining the qualifications of the nominee.
