Chamber to hold civics bee

Feb. 4—LIMA — The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce is looking for students grades 6 through 8 for the National Civics Bee competition.

Middle school students are invited to participate in the essay competition. The top 20 students will be selected to compete in a quiz event to test their civics knowledge. The Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce will host this event on 4 p.m. April 19 at the Lima Public Library. The finalists and top winners will receive various prizes.

"We are so excited to be supporting our students in the community through the 2023 National Civics Bee," said Jed Metzger, president/CEO of Lima/Allen County Chamber of Commerce and the Lima Area Chamber Foundation in a press release. "This program will provide a unique, challenging, and fulfilling experience for all participants and encourages young Americans to engage in civics and contribute to their communities."

In the first round essay, students need to identify a problem facing our community and how a citizen might solve the problem. Students need to write a 500-word essay, two pages, double-spaced.
