Central's Hofer, Prehn claim fourth in second-flight doubles at boys AA tennis tournament

Aberdeen Central's No. 2 doubles team of Mitchell Hofer and AJ Prehn placed fourth at the Class AA boys high school tennis tournament in Rapid City Friday.

Hofer and Prehn lost the third-place match to the Sioux Falls O'Gorman duo of Cooper Johnson and Will Koziara, 10-1.

The Golden Eagles finished seventh in the team race. Sioux Falls Lincoln won the state championship. The tournament began Thursday.

In first-flight doubles, Central's Gabe Goetz and Ian Ahlberg took home fifth place after downing Watertown's Mark Mahowald and Chris Sneden 10-5.

At No. 1 singles, Goetz placed fifth after beating Harrisburg's Alexander Rallis 10-3.

Hofer, a seventh-grader, finished fifth in third-flight singles thanks to a 10-6 win over Eli Woidyla of Brandon Valley.

  • Third-flight doubles: Sekou Gogue and Michael Frohling fell to Rapid City Stevens 10-2 in the fifth-place semifinals.

  • Second-flight singles: Ahlberg fell to Sioux Falls Roosevelt's Brock Kruger 10-9 (4) in the ninth-place match.

  • Fourth-flight singles: Prehn fell to Harrisburg's Brayden Rausch 10-8 in the fifth-place semifinals.

  • Fifth-flight singles: Gogue fell to Rapid City Stevens' Max Phares 10-5 in the fifth-place semifinals.

  • Sixth-flight singles: Jack Riggs fell to Watertown's Zandar Binde 10-8 in the fifth-place semifinals.
