One-third of ThisWeek's Super 12 boys soccer team competed in state championship games in 2022.

The Athlete of the Year in each sport will be announced at the Central Ohio High School Sports Awards, presented by Encova Insurance. The winners will be announced during the live show on June 15 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The show is produced with the support of Raising Canes and Nationwide Children's Hospital.

School: New Albany

Year: Senior

The forward’s 18 goals and 17 assists paced the Eagles to their third consecutive Division I district championship and second state runner-up finish in three years.

Anthony, who had 28 goals in 2021, earned OCC-Ohio Division and district Player of the Year honors and was named first-team all-state. The Eagles went 16-2-3, losing to Cleveland St. Ignatius 2-0 in the state final.

Wil Baker

School: Hilliard Davidson

Year: Junior

Baker, a midfielder, helped lead Davidson to a banner season as he finished with three goals and eight assists and was first-team all-district and all-OCC-Central and second team all-state.

The Wildcats captured their first league title since 2019 and first district championship since 2015 before losing 2-0 to New Albany in a regional semifinal to finish 13-4-3.

Miles Bonham

School: Upper Arlington

Year: Senior

Despite missing the Golden Bears’ first three games because of an injury, Bonham finished with 11 goals and one assist in 16 contests as UA went 11-3-5, finishing as a Division I district runner-up for the fourth year in a row.

The midfielder was named first-team all-OCC-Central, all-district and all-state and is a Super 12 selection for the second consecutive season.

Danny Claypool

Danny Claypool

School: Grandview Heights

Year: Senior

Claypool came up big from his forward position to help the Bobcats win the last two Division III state titles. He scored twice in a 3-0 win over Toledo Ottawa Hills in the 2022 final and three times in a 4-2 win over Columbiana Crestview in the 2021 title game.

He was Grandview’s top scorer this fall with 20 goals and 11 assists, earning second-team all-state and first-team all-district and all-MSL-Ohio honors.

Will DeVere

School: Grandview Heights

Year: Senior

DeVere moved from forward to defender and helped the Bobcats win their ninth district title in a row and second consecutive Division III state championship. They defeated Ottawa Hills 3-0 to finish 15-7-1.

The Super 12 Captain in 2021, DeVere had seven goals and two assists to earn first-team all-state and all-district and MSL-Ohio Player of the Year honors.

Grayson Fletcher

School: Bexley

Year: Senior

Fletcher had 11 goals and 11 assists to lead the Lions to their first district title since 2019, first regional championship since 2012 and first state final since 2005. They lost to Lima Shawnee 1-0 (3-1 shootout) in the Division II final to finish 18-4-1.

The midfielder was first-team all-state and district Player of the Year. He also was first-team all-league as Bexley won its second consecutive MSL-Ohio title.

Will Garinger

School: Worthington Christian

Year: Senior

This goalie led a defense that propelled the Warriors to a Division III regional semifinal. He finished with nine shutouts, stopping 103 shots, and earned district Player of the Year honors.

Two of Garinger’s shutouts came in the postseason. Worthington Christian went 13-6-2 a season after earning a regional runner-up finish.

Aidan Gordon

School: Olentangy Liberty

Year: Junior

This forward proved adept in set pieces, assisting on both goals in a 2-1 win over Dublin Jerome in a Division I regional semifinal. He also had an assist as the Patriots defeated Olentangy 2-0 for their first district championship since 2019 and sixth overall.

Gordon was second-team all-state, first-team all-district and OCC-Central Player of the Year after leading Liberty with 16 goals and 13 assists.

Luke Hanlon

School: Olentangy

Year: Junior

This forward was valuable as a scorer and passer, leading the Braves with 18 goals and 12 assists to give him 25 goals and 20 assists for his career.

Hanlon earned first-team all-state and all-district and OCC-Cardinal Player of the Year honors, helping Olentangy to its first league title since 2010. The Braves had a 25-game undefeated streak snapped in the regular-season finale.

Jack Maust

School: Dublin Jerome

Year: Junior

Maust, a midfielder and forward, played a key role in the Celtics’ success, finishing with six goals and six assists. He was named first-team all-district and all-OCC-Cardinal and second-team all-state.

Jerome played in its eighth consecutive district final, capturing its ninth title overall with a 1-0 victory over DeSales before falling to Liberty 2-1 in a Division I regional semifinal to finish 12-3-5.

School: DeSales

Year: Senior

The first-team all-CCL, first-team all-district and second-team all-state defender paced the Stallions to eight shutouts and a Division I district runner-up finish.

Rennie, a three-year starter who played forward as a freshman, also had six goals as DeSales went 12-6-1 overall and 3-1 in the CCL, winning its first league title since 2017. The Stallions lost to Jerome 1-0 in a district final.

Charlie Tuckerman

School: Columbus Academy

Year: Senior

After sitting out his junior season to focus on club soccer, Tuckerman helped carry the Vikings to a Division II district title. The forward led Academy in scoring with 29 goals and 16 assists, earning first-team all-district and all-MSL-Ohio and second-team all-state honors.

The Vikings lost to Cincinnati Wyoming 6-0 in a regional final to finish 15-6.
