CCS hosting football skills camp

Jun. 18—If you're out to find a football camp for your youngster, Claremore Christian could be a viable option.

On July 8-9 from 5:30 p.m. — 7:30 p.m., CCS is hosting a skills camp for players in third through seventh grade. Cost of attendance is $50, and t-shirts will be provided to everyone signed up by July 1.

The camp, which will be taught by the CCS varsity coaching staff, will help athletes further develop proper form and technique. Furthermore, current members of the high school team will be on site to provide mentorship.

Skills covered will include blocking and tackling, as well as specific drills for quarterbacks, running backs and receivers.

For blocking, athletes will work on head and hand placement and proper footwork for head-up blocking and the pulling technique.

Elsewhere, CCS is adopting the tackling form used by the Seattle Seahawks, which includes head up and head behind the runner techniques. The Warriors are utilizing this form of tackling to help keep players safe.

Running backs will work on formation, handoffs, pitches and catching out of the backfield while quarterbacks learn one- and three-step drops while also improving on passing, handoffs and leading receiving targets.

As for receivers, they will be taught dynamic route running, blocking and how to see the ball all the way to their hands.

Those interested should contact athletic director Katie Schulze at ktschulze3@gmail.com for more information. Registration is also open at myschoolbucks.com.

The registration fee is $60 for all students, with first through fifth graders practicing from 9 a.m. — 11:30 a.m., followed by sixth through ninth graders from noon to 2:45 p.m.

Daily awards will be given, and concessions will be available. A camp t-shirt will be provided.

A volleyball camp will be held from July 20-22 for girls entering third through eighth grade. Registration is $50, and every athlete will be given a camp t-shirt.
