Catching up: Jacy Pulse powers Coyotes to Summit women's track title
May 18—TULSA, Okla. — For the first time since 2008, South Dakota women's track and field swept the indoor and outdoor team conference titles, with a number of Mitchell area standouts helping to pave the way.
The Coyote women captured the trophy at the conclusion of the three-day Summit League Championships held at ONEOK Sports Complex on May 13. South Dakota totaled 243 points in the women's team race to runner-up North Dakota State's 225.
Sophomore Jacy Pulse, a native of Salem, earned all-Summit honors in four events. She won her first individual Summit title, winning the 400-meter hurdles in a personal best 59.58 seconds. The time ranks second in USD program history. South Dakota has won three of the last four titles in the women's 400 hurdles. Pulse also garnered all-Summit honors in the 100 meters, placing third in 11.95 seconds.
In the relays, she helped the Coyotes win both the 4x100 and 4x400 races. The women's 4x100-meter relay set the tone for the final day of the league meet by setting a Summit League Championship record and South Dakota school record in the first running event of the day. Sophomore Erin Kinney, Pulse, freshman Caelyn Valandra-Prue and sophomore Sara Reifenrath clocked 44.99 seconds.
The women's 4x400 relay of Pulse, third-year sophomore Madison Jochum, Valandra-Prue and Reifenrath led wire to wire to successfully defend their Summit title. The quartet combined for a time of 3:43.65.
Mitchell native Carly Haring earned all-Summit meet honors in the outdoor championship with a third-place finish in the high jump. Her best jump reached 5 feet, 9.25 inches (1.76 meters), with teammate Danii Anglin winning at 5-10 1/2 inches.
The NCAA West Preliminary meet is scheduled for May 25-28 in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
SMITHVILLE, Mo. — Augustana's Masy Mock, a native of Mitchell, closed the 2022 season with a successful run with the Vikings' golf team, helping the squad to the NSIC Championship and a solid effort at the NCAA regionals.
In late April, Augie won its 11th NSIC women's golf title in school history. The Vikings had three golfers named to the all-tournament team including a second-place finish from Shannon McCormick (73-81-77—231) and Molly Stevens took third in the tournament (77-81-74—232). Mock, a freshman, tied for fourth with a three-day score of 237 (77-80-80—237).
The win clinched Augie an automatic berth at the NCAA Super Regional from May 2-4 at Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Arkansas. The Vikings finished in eighth place with a team score of 960.
Mock finished in a tie for 37th place, shooting 81-81-79 over three days. For the season, Mock finished with four finishes in the top-five at tournaments and had a scoring average of 80 over 17 rounds.
CRETE, Neb. — The end of the Great Plains Athletic Conference women's golf tournament brought a successful career to a close for Burke native Tressa Bull.
Bull, a senior, posted a four-round score of 350 over 72 holes for the GPAC tournament, including the final 36 holes at Norfolk Country Club in Norfolk, Nebraska.
Overall, Bull's mark was a Doane record for a 72-hole event, shooting 90-90-86-84. She also finished with a career scoring average of 88.5, which is a Doane record. She finished 16th in the tournament.
As a team, Doane finished 11th, while Bull was named as an all-GPAC selection.
