Casualty favourite Di Botcher was initially (and understandably) shocked by her character Jan Jenning's drug storyline.
In soon-to-air scenes, the paramedic will sneak drugs into prison to save her incarcerated son Ross from being violently attacked by thugs.

Catching up with Inside Soap, the Welsh actress recalled of her first script read: "I just thought, 'Nah she's not going to do that!'
"I put myself in Jan's shoes and thought, 'Well, I'd never do that!' But it's about her love for her son and she genuinely believes that his life is at risk.
"Nobody else is going to help him, so Jan realises she's the last resort. However, she's about to go to hell and back..."

Meanwhile, when things take an unfortunate twist, Jan will have to silently contend with anxieties back at home as her wife and police sergeant Ffion Morgan won't be there to help.
"We have to remember that Ffion is a police officer, so her moral code would guide her even if Jan's moral code has collapsed," commented Di. "And also, Ffion has never liked Ross, even when he was younger, so that would cause tension between them.
"As soon as Jan mentioned Ross, the eyebrows would be up and Ffion wouldn't be very sympathetic to listening!"
