New cases of COVID-19 in NEPA dip below 200 for sixth time in past week

Feb. 27—The number of new COVID-19 cases reported Saturday in a seven-county region of Northeast Pennsylvania dipped below 200 for the sixth time during the past week, according to the state Department of Health's daily update.

Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne and Wyoming counties had 184 new cases recorded Saturday, down from 228 new daily cases posted Friday.

The prior five days each had fewer than 200 new cases.

Saturday's figures raised the total number of cases in the seven-county NEPA region to 56,778.

The region added seven new deaths for 1,621 total.

Statewide, the Department of Health recorded 3,361 new cases Saturday, an uptick compared to 3,346 the prior day. The statewide total of cases now stands at 929,697.

There were 63 new deaths statewide reported Saturday, which increased the state death toll to 24,000.

In the local counties:

Lackawanna added 59 cases for 13,888 total, including 2,074 probable. Two new deaths raised the county total to 418.

Luzerne added 45 cases for 24,849 total, including 1,811 probable. Four new deaths raised the county total to 729.

Monroe added 42 cases for 9,631 total, including 249 probable, and remained at 266 deaths.

Pike added 18 cases for 2,514 total, including 209 probable. One new death raised the county total to 48.

Susquehanna added four cases for 1,697 total, including 191 probable, and remained at 53 deaths.

Wayne added 14 cases for 3,040 total, including 260 probable, and remained at 66 deaths.

Wyoming added two cases for 1,159 total, including 196 probable, and remained at 41 deaths.
