Carrie Symonds claps for carers, says she has another ‘wonderful reason to thank the NHS’ in first post-birth tweet
Carrie Symonds has spoken out for the first time since giving birth to a baby boy on Wednesday, tweeting her support for NHS workers on the frontline of the coronavirus pandemic.
The new mum, who is engaged to Prime Minister Boris Johnson, had another reason to thank the NHS this week as she confirmed she was also clapping for health care workers who helped her welcome her baby son this week.
“Clapping again for our tremendous carers tonight,” she tweeted before taking the opportunity to wish Captain Tom Moore a happy 100th birthday.
“I also have another wonderful reason to thank the NHS this week too. Thank you so, so much!"
The 32-year-old posted on Twitter at 8pm tonight revealing she would be taking part in the nationwide weekly clap.

Despite confirming she took part in the clap for carers, Symonds was not seen outside Downing Street with fiancé Boris Johnson.
The Prime Minister made his first public appearance the couple welcomed their baby boy as he led the Downing Street press briefing, his first since recovering from coronavirus.

The couple announced that they were now proud parents to a “healthy baby boy” on Wednesday, with their spokesperson adding: “Both mother and baby are doing very well. The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds would like to thank the fantastic NHS maternity team.”
The baby, whose name is yet to be revealed, has joined a list of Downing Street babies born while a parent has been in office.
Former Prime Minister David Cameron also welcomed a baby girl, Florence Rose Endellion, in August 2010 while he was serving as PM and he lead the messages of congratulations to the couple.
“Heartfelt congratulations @BorisJohnson and @carriesymonds on your wonderful news today,” he tweeted. “Sam and I are thrilled for you both! Sorry we didn't leave the cot - but the climbing frame should still be in the garden!”

It was announced in February that the PM and his partner Symonds were engaged and expecting a baby.
“The Prime Minister and Miss Symonds are very pleased to announce their engagement and that they are expecting a baby in the early summer,” a spokesperson for the couple said at the time.
