Carnation Quilters make plans for guild retreat

Members of the Sew Happy Carnation Quilters got updates on upcoming activities at the group’s most recent meeting, including news that costs for the 2023 guild retreat will be rising.

Member Mary Bernower reported that rooms for the 2023 guild retreat, scheduled for Sept. 8-10, 2023, have risen. The guild approved a new cost of $160 per person for a double room. Payment and designation of roommates should be made no later than July 8, 2023.

Pam Kuhn reported that attendees for this year’s retreat enjoyed the experience. Heather Czomba shared the charity quilt idea for blocks to be made by attendees from the fat quarters and 2.5-inch fabric strips she won at the retreat. She showed off three blocks she made gave the remaining fabrics to Joyce Regoli-Salamon, who will make her blocks next.

Sue Rhoads collected annual dues from members, and reminded members about the Christmas luncheon, planned for 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Dec. 15on the second floor of Alliance Country Club. Members should bring at least one wrapped white elephant gift for the auction, same as last year.

Bernower and Nora Weekly showed two veteran quilts made so far for this year. One features a block made by Gwen, with storage bags made by Regoli-Salamon.

Show and share included many in-process projects from the retreat as well as some that now are finished. Marikay Colbert showed a spiral table runner; Lisa Stroup showed a fall star quilt; Bernower, garden top from panel pieces and pieced sunflower corners; Regoli-Salamon, Florida purse with many pockets and zipper and a baby’s Christmas stocking; Czomba, a geometric pieced table topper and a 3-yard Christmas quilt; Marcia Wright, a “pandemic” quilt made from blocks designed by members of an Australian Facebook group (designs on Love & Hugs, Facebook); Pat Wiggins, fall pumpkin and sunflower medallion quilt; Pam Kuhn, hexie fold and quilt-as-you-go quilt; Sue Rhoads, red and black poppy quilt and star Christmas quilt, and she showed fabric from a new Canadian friend.
