Holding on to first place in the National League Central, the St. Louis Cardinals would love to add one of their biggest names back to the rotation. That hopeful arm is scheduled to make a rehab appearance in Springfield this week.

Right-handed pitcher Jack Flaherty will make a rehab start in Springfield on Tuesday as the Cardinals host the Arkansas Travelers at 6:35 p.m. at Hammons Field.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol told reporters on Sunday that Flaherty will likely throw 40-to-45 pitches, according to The Athletic's Katie Woo. Flaherty was placed on the 60-day IL in July while dealing with a shoulder injury.

Flaherty hasn't made much of an impact during the 2022 season, only making three appearances with the big-league club. He's only pitched eight total innings and has a 3.38 ERA.

Flaherty made an appearance with Triple-A Memphis on Thursday and pitched one inning while giving up four hits and three earned runs while striking out two.

His last appearance with the Springfield Cardinals came last year when he made one start and threw four innings while allowing three runs. His longest stint in Springfield came in 2017 with 10 starts and a 1.42 ERA. Two years later, he went 11-8 with the big-league club and finished fourth in the National League Cy Young voting.
